Aarogya Setu, a smartphone app developed by the MyGov. India in association with Ministries of Electronics and IT. This mobile app is designed to help citizens identify the spread of the Corona COVID-19 virus with self-diagnosis options. Some new features are added which we will discuss further in this article. MyGov has stated and promoted clearly "How Aryogya Setu App can track Corona Virus Patients"? The App is easily available for download for both Android and iPhone users. Aarogya Setu boasts of a simple interface and available in 10 regional languages and English.
Many questions are raised in different forums and news blogs whether Aarogya Setu can trace infected patients. The answer is yes but to a certain extent. We need to understand that the App is in its initial phase. However, the response rate has been very encouraging and downloads are increasing on a daily basis. A lot of existing cases are been updated on the app which means if a healthy person is within Bluetooth limits of the infected patient then it raises an alert. However, for that feature to work the Bluetooth and location sharing should be enabled before going outside for any emergency. Details on whether the patient handset should be online or Bluetooth enabled at the same time is not confirmed yet. We hope to update the blog when more details are available.
Once installed, this app will verify the user with an OTP, Name, and Gender of the user. It also checks for any virus symptoms by asking a set of questions like the user’s travel history, etc. If your travel history is matched with that of any patient registered with the IMCR database it will guide you with further instructions. Update on the App algorithm is not been disclosed by the development team. One of the best things about the app is that personal information & privacy is secured and will be held by the Government only. Please ensure that you download the App from Google Playstore or Apple App Store only.
Aarogya Setu not only helps in contact tracing of infected patients but it also claimed to play an important role to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A specialized committee, led by Niti Aayog chief executive Amitabh Kant, has recommended extensive use of Arogya Setu even after the lockdown to monitor and stop the spread of diseases. Its high points include modern traceability and movement of existing patients with healthy people in hotspot & other locations. So, the next time you go out of your house (only in emergency situations) ensure that recommended masks and sanitizers are with you. And don’t forget to switch on the Bluetooth, GPS and Internet buttons on your Smartphone. This will go a long way helping Aarogya Setu to track COVID-19 patients’ activities.
